Humans of Patreon: Katie Sharp

June 28, 2024

Meet Katie Sharp, one of the vibrant forces behind Patreon's social media presence. As our Senior Social Media Manager, Katie brings creativity, strategy, and a passion for the creator economy to every post, reel, and story. With her finger on the pulse of both social media trends and the diverse world of Patreon creators, Katie plays a crucial role in connecting our platform with audiences worldwide. Her work not only showcases our incredible creators on Patreon but also helps foster a community where creativity thrives. Let's dive into Katie's world as we ask her some fun and insightful questions that reveal the person behind the posts!

Question: Explain what your job is if you were talking to a 5 year old.

Katie: I help the teams at Patreon post stuff on our social media channels.

Question: Who is your favorite creator & why?

Katie: I'm a huge fan of Joe Pera. He's my comfort creator, and everything he does instantly makes me feel calmer, from his sleep podcast "Drifting Off with Joe Pera," to the fact that he posts pictures of a new tomato every day on his Instagram.

Question: If you started a Patreon, what would it be and why?

Katie: I love thrifting, and also really enjoy any kind of craft or DIY decor project; my Patreon would be all about bringing those two things together. I’d document some behind-the-scenes of my thrifting and crafting journey, as well as my creation process for repurposing some of the things I find.

Question: What's one thing about working at Patreon that surprised you the most?

Katie: I've felt so energized creatively! Everyone I've worked with has been incredibly welcoming, thoughtful, and excited to collaborate on any and all ideas.

Question: If your career was a reality TV show, what would be its tagline?

Katie: "If you're not having some fun, then what are you doing?"

Question: If you could have any creator as your mentor for a day, who would it be and what would you learn?

Katie: Hallease Narvaez. She's a wonderful storyteller and filmmaker; I would love to just spend the day with her deep-diving on her own social video production process, and get her advice for staying true to her creative identity.

Question: If you could instantly master one skill to help creators, what would it be?

Katie: I'd make creative blocks magically disappear.

Question: Describe each day of the work week in the form of a playlist/song. Please explain the reason for each.

Katie: Monday -"Hollywood Baby" by 100 gecs. This song is like 2000s pop punk nostalgia and gives me a lot of energy to start my week.

Tuesday - "Lean into Life" by Petey. Tuesdays are really about finding my groove and getting some work done. This song is all about accomplishing little things one at a time, instead of trying to do everything at once.

Wednesday - "Serotonin" by girl in red. Wednesdays are the days I'm usually working in the office, and this is one of my go-to songs when I'm commuting on the subway.

Thursday - "Making It Through" by Angie McMahon. I like closing out a day by listening to something grounding and calming.

Friday - "360" by Charli XCX. It's summer now, so I’m officially deeming this my “song of the summer.” Actually, the entire 'brat' album is a great one to be listening to all summer (if you’re not already)!

Question: If your job had a theme song, what would it be and which lyrics best describe your role?

Katie: Instead of a theme song, how about the entire "Social Network" movie soundtrack? It’s an instrumental album, so no lyrics, but it’s definitely a wild and fun ride.
